It’s not easy keeping up with everything going on in the Russia investigation but Stephen Colbert managed to clear things up on Michael Cohen’s lies.

Whether it’s easier to comprehend coming from a comedian or the truth is just too difficult to swallow without a joke to help, a lot of people are turning to Stephen Colbert when political news breaks. The Late Show host was on top of his game Thursday night after President Trump’s former lawyer Michael Cohen was back in the headlines.

The big headline was that Cohen admitted to making false statements to Congress about contact with Russia about a Trump property in Moscow. It marked a high point (or low point?) in a week that has been tough for Team Trump.

Of course there was no sympathy for President Trump or Michael Cohen from Stephen Colbert. The shady business of the Trump’ administration has translated to booming business for the late night host. Taking the reins from his old boss Jon Stewart, Colbert has become the go-to voice for providing broad, comical yet informative commentary on political stories.

Nowhere else on television can you find a host detailing why Cohen would lie about Trump’s projects in Russia while also sprinkling in lines about urine in Russian beds or turning “pro bono” into a prostitution joke. That’s the Colbert difference and it’s helping The Late Show keep its ratings lead.

light. Related Story. Stephen Colbert says President Trump stole his bit

It’s not exactly ideal to rely on a late night talk show host to explain these types of stories. Other news outlets should certainly be consulted. But can you blame anyone for turning to Colbert when you hear President Trump’s attempts to explain it? It’s was a lot of rambling on building a building, projects, didn’t dos and could have dones. Thankfully all this continues to get put through the Stephen Colbert translator, making it just a bit easier to swallow.
