Trevor Noah breaks down the tough week for Team Trump
By Matt Moore
Even before news broke on Michael Cohen’s latest confession, things weren’t going great for President Trump and friends. Trevor Noah looked at why
We all know that the holidays can be a stressful time of year. For many of us, it means trying to spend time with friends and family. It’s no different for President Trump except for the fact that all his friends and family can’t seem to get out of trouble. Sound stressful? Trevor Noah explained why.
By his own admission the president only surrounds himself with the best people. Unless they are in deep legal trouble, in which case he barely knows them, only associated with them for a brief period, etc. However, that excuse doesn’t work so well when applied to everyone. And it looks like everyone in Trump’s circle has something to hide.
It can be difficult, sadly, to keep track of everything that is alleged or investigated when it comes to Team Trump. That inner circle is reportedly getting smaller and smaller as more people like Paul Manafort slip up. Let Noah take it from here:
Like John Oliver on Last Week Tonight , Trevor Noah is excellent at breaking down these complex twists and turns. He does it in a way that is humorous and easy to comprehend much like his predecessor Jon Stewart was able to do. (Still, the sooner we get Stewart back in the lead chair of show, the better).
Hopefully “Resting Snitch Face” catches on for Manafort. He seems to have no problem telling anyone what they want to hear to save his own skin. And as the clip Noah shared from CBS indicates, it’s unlikely that Manafort will outsmart Robert Mueller. But that wasn’t the only cause of stress for Team Trump.
The stress the president is feeling would otherwise be a cause for his bizzarely-worded quote on why he doesn’t believe in climate change. But it is not uncommon for Trump to struggle to convey his thoughts despite having the “best words.” It’s partly the reason Stephen Colbert called out Trump for relying so heavily on his “gut.”
The third slip up of the week may be the one that hurts the president the most. His golden child Ivanka Trump was found to have been using a personal email account for government business. This is similar to the controversy surrounding Hillary Clinton’s emails, one of President Trump’s favorite callbacks.
Trevor Noah is spot on saying that the issue isn’t what could have been exposed through Ivanka’s private email use. It is (hopefully) unlikely that she is involved in any high-value White House business. It’s worth wondering if the similarities between her excuses and those of Clinton are coincidence or she was sure to study what the former secretary of state had said. But that may be giving a Trump too much credit.
