Steve Bannon, September 28

Give credit where credit is due, even if it’s to Steve Bannon. He didn’t have much of anything to gain by joining Bill Maher on Real Time. The former White House chief strategist has been vilified and considered the mastermind behind some of President Trump’s more morally-bankrupt policies.

Maher was on the receiving end of some criticism for having Bannon as a guest. Some saw it as giving a platform to a man who did not deserve one. But Maher has never tried to make his show an echo chamber and has welcomed individuals with a wide range of religious, political, and social views.

Did viewers really want another liberal on Real Time pointing out everything that was insane or corrupt about the Trump administration? Isn’t it worth it to hear Bannon attempt to defend himself, especially to someone like Maher who can have an unfiltered counter to it all?

Bannon didn’t budge when pressed on trying to explain Trump’s behavior or concede that he may not be the man for the job. He and Maher were in agreement that Democrats like Hillary Clinton and Bernie Sanders needed to be more willing to face confrontation from more hostile media outlets.

One interesting quote from Bannon was in regard to the midterm elections. At the time, they were just weeks away. The former Trump strategist made this prediction:

"I do think this campaign, after November 6, which is really Trump’s first re-election. If we lose the House, he’s gonna be impeached — this is a referendum on him."

Well, as we saw the Republicans did in fact lose the House. With a Democratic majority, things are going to get a lot more difficult for President Trump. If you believe Steve Bannon, it’s the beginning of the end.
