The 16th season of Real Time with Bill Maher came to end recently so we’ve gathered the best moments from another hilarious and provocative year.

Even 16 years of Real Time with Bill Maher seems too short. It feels like Maher has been delivering his weekly show for much longer than that. And while he has been on television even before Real Time became the success that it is, the current version of Maher’s talk show has always been part of the conversation when it comes to intersection of comedy and politics.

The longevity and relevancy of Real Time is part of the reason HBO took time this year to celebrate Maher. His anniversary special looked back at his entire career on television but highlighted how his unique voice has been communicated through Real Time.

Season 16 was representative of the show’s cultural impact and why it gives us the sense that Maher has been around for so long. 2018 felt like a drawn out year with a never-ending supply of stories that seemed more unbelievable or unlikely than the last. It would have been easy to become numb to these news cycles if it wasn’t for Maher’s weekly approach to the headlines defined by humor, insight, and perspective.

There are few, if any, comedians working that can cover the topics Maher covers on Real Time. One week he’s calling out political correctness in Halloween, the next he’s breaking down socialism, and then finally he’s ripping on the Roseanne saga.

A lot happened in 2018. Bill Maher and his guests were there for all of it, either adding to the conversation or driving it. Here is part one of the highlights from season 16 of Real Time with Bill Maher.
