With voting day having officially arrived, Trevor Noah took some time out on the Daily Show to examine the wave of holograms popping up around the country.

Candidates are out shaking a few final hands. Stickers are being passed out left and right. Social media is buzzing with voting hashtags. These are the tell-tale signs that it is voting day after what seemed like an eternal build-up. But for Trevor Noah, there is another sign.

The Daily Show commented first on the wave of celebrity public service announcements and efforts to get voters registered. There is certainly nothing wrong with encouraging fellow citizens to get active in the political process. Having Oprah going door to door? Well, that speaks either to the magnitude of the elections or the absurdity of politics in 2018. Or more likely, both.

One of the hallmarks of any election day is the news coverage. Anchors on channels up and down the dial check in with minute by minute updates. The latest exit polls are analyzed, correspondents across the country pop up with on-location reports. How accurate these predictions and analyses actually are is a whole other story.

Whether a news network is right or wrong on election results isn’t as important as how flashy their graphics get. It has to be an exciting time knowing that these graphics and transitions are finally making their debut tonight. It certainly has Noah’s attention:

Let’s hope that the news networks have better luck than The Daily Show’s trial version for graphics if the turnout reports are correct. It’s a great sign that people are out early to have their voices heard. It isn’t easy for some voters. And even some candidates can run into some trouble at polling stations and campaign stops as we saw when Ted Cruz was visited by Triumph the Insult Comic Dog in Texas.
