Watch the best of Justin Timberlake and Jimmy Fallon on the Tonight Show
By Matt Moore
To celebrate Justin Timberlake’s latest appearance on The Tonight Show, Jimmy Fallon put together a montage of what makes Timberlake the perfect late night guest.
No disrespect to Steve Higgins, but Justin Timberlake may be the closest thing that Jimmy Fallon has to a sidekick on The Tonight Show. The two bring out the best in each other any time their together. That is, assuming they can get through a bit or interview without breaking.
The friendship started all the way back in Fallon’s Saturday Night Live days. They showed some good chemistry during the “Barry Gibb Talk Show” sketches and seemed to amuse themselves more than anything.
The good times continued when Fallon took over Late Night from Conan O’Brien. Timberlake played a big part in Fallon’s early viral video hits that would become a calling card as he moved up to the Tonight Show gig. The rest is history and it’s all recapped in this video:
It’s hard to say what’s better: the singing bits or the straight comedy ones. That’s because each requires the other to go a little out of his element into the other’s expertise. But if anything, it shows how incredibly talented Timberlake is as a performer. He’s hosted a few times but Timberlake could probably make it as a Saturday Night Live cast member.
The most fun for the pair seems to be during the summer camp sketches. The highlight of these bits can sometimes be writer and performer A.D. Miles as the exasperated Mr. Fletcher.
Another thing that goes underappreciated is Timberlake’s Fallon impression. He really only needs the words “so good” to completely nail how Fallon reacts to basically everything and anything he hears behind the Tonight Show desk.
So while changes are coming to Jimmy Fallon’s Tonight Show, it’s nice to take a trip down memory lane and see one of the best friendships on television. Next week we’ll unveil a list of every late night host’s best recurring guest. It’s safe to say that Fallon’s is already picked out.
