The Late Show host referred to Trump as “The Tariff Guy” while exposing the president for denying his prior stance on tariffs.

It appears at though President Donald Trump had a little trouble remembering his own words and policies recently. In an interview with the Wall Street Journal, he claimed “we don’t have tariffs” when questioned about how the taxes could be a threat to long-term economic health.

But even just a basic search reveals that the president has been calling for more tariffs and used them as bargaining tools in trade negotiations. So to then say that the U.S. doesn’t have tariffs is a bit hypocritical. And nobody loves pointing out Trump contradicting Trump more than Stephen Colbert.

It wasn’t that long ago that Colbert went after First Lady Melania Trump yet again. She was mocked on The Late Show in part for claiming to be the most bullied person in the world. But when you’re married to one of the biggest bullies in the world nobody, especially Colbert, will feel bad for you. Colbert was at it again when Trump’s tariff story was published:

The quotes that Colbert uses to show how many times Trump uses the word “tariff” clearly show that the president knows what he is saying is wrong. It’s been well documented that Trump believes saying something enough time will make it true. So if he hammers away at “we don’t have tariffs” then perhaps everyone will forget them. Not Colbert.

The second half of the clip has Colbert covering the bizarre-but-not-for-2018 story of Utah Senator Jim Dabakis streaming his first marijuana experience. Side effects of marijuana include memory loss. Memory loss apparently has stricken the president when it comes to tariffs. It’s all connected
