Here’s the Real Time with Bill Maher lineup for Oct. 26
By Matt Moore
Real Time with Bill Maher returns with an all-new episode tonight on HBO. Here’s all you need to know about who will be Maher’s guests.
Audiences who tuned into HBO last week looking for the latest episode of Real Time with Bill Maher were instead given something different. The network ran an anniversary special celebrating Maher’s career on television both before and during his run on HBO.
The special featured plenty of clips of Maher demonstrating what has made him so successful as a comic and political commentator. Viewers also got insight from some of Maher’s favorite guests like Larry David and Barbara Streisand.
But Maher will be back to regularly scheduled programming on Oct. 26. He’s back just in time as midterm elections draw closer and bombs mailed to Democrats like the Clintons and President Barack Obama have taken over headlines. Real Time has been riding a successful run of shows since September with the most viewers watching since June. Here’s the lineup for Oct 26:
Top-of-Show Interview
To kick things off Maher will be joined by Stormy Daniels. The adult film actress has been in the mainstream spotlight since March when the details of her alleged affair with President Donald Trump became public. Since then, it’s be revealed that Trump’s personal attorney Michael Cohen paid Daniels, AKA Stephanie Clifford, hush money back in 2016.
Daniels then released the book Full Disclosure that offered some details on her time with Trump and the aftermath. It made a few more headlines for Daniels detailed description of the president’s anatomy. This will be her first appearance on Real Time.
Mid-Show Interview
The mid-show sitdown will have Maher speaking with moral psychologist Jonathan Haidt. Haidt is a professor at New York University and has received praise for his work on ethics, morality, and social institutionism.
Haidt has applied his research on moral psychology to politics in the past. He has described himself as a centrist and expressed a desire to reduce political divisiveness. His latest book was published this year, titled The Coddling of the American Mind.
The idea of moral psychology applied to the sociopolitical landscape is a timely one. Maher always gets the perfect guest for the week’s news and Haidt is a prime example. The title of his book alone should get Maher wide-eyed heading into the discussion.
The Panel
The panel to close out the show will feature three returning guests:
Anthony Scaramucci, the former White House communications director, returns to Real Time. “The Mooch” as he is affectionately(?) referred to as, has managed to parlay his six day tenure in Trump’s administration into a career as a political commentator. Scaramucci published his book Trump: The Blue-Collar President” earlier this month.
Author and historian Max Boot will be making his second appearance. After emigrating to the U.S. from the Soviet Union in the 1970s, Boot went on to begin a journalism career that has him published by The New York Times and The Los Angeles Times among others. On Oct. 9 he released his book The Corrosion of Conservatism: Why I Left the Right.
Rounding out the panel is journalist Betsy Woodruff. She currently writes for The Daily Beast after stints with Slate and National Review. Recently, she has been focused on covering the death of journalist Jamal Khashoggi.
Real Time with Bill Maher can be seen on HBO Friday, Oct. 26 at 10:00 PM eastern. There are an additional three episodes scheduled through the end of November as part of the 16th season. Last Night On will continue to have it all covered!
