Late Night With Seth Meyers asked all the right questions with President Donald Trump at the podium.

Short of taking a lie detector test, the press conference is the most effective way to ask the president direct questions. President Trump has been elusive when it comes to appearing solo in front of the press. Plenty of articles have been published on just how uncommon the Trump news conference has become.

The problem solvers over at Late Night With Seth Meyers offered their take on a Trump press conference during last night’s episode. After taking a week off following Meyer’s Saturday Night Live  hosting duties the show picked up right where it left off by hounding the president.

In the video below we see Seth Meyers doing his best journalist impression as he peppers Trump with questions real journalists only wish they could ask. The normally deceptive president comes off very candid in this Late Night fantasy:

The believeability of the clip goes on the window not on Trump’s answers but on the idea that he would allow the same reporter to ask multiple questions. We’ve seen time and time again how quickly the president will dismiss and demean a reporter before quickly moving on to a more friendly face.

No, Late Night With Seth Meyers is not delivering ground-breaking comedy with a doctored interview. It has been used on The Daily Show and even more by Meyer’s competitor The Late Show With Stephen Colbert:

This is what happens when you have a president that rarely speaks in specifics. It is extremely easy to parody his answers and turn them into punchlines for whatever setup  a late night host and team of writers can invent.

If President Trump wants to call practically everything “fake news” then shows like Late Night and The Late Show may as well show him just that. Maybe with a few more press conferences and a little more detail in his answers, Trump can put an end to these bits. But Meyers and Colbert shouldn’t worry about that.
