Is Saturday Night Live new for Oct. 20?
By Matt Moore
Season 44 of Saturday Night Live has been off to a strong start through the first three episodes. Does it return for an all new episode tonight?
Saturday Night Live remains one of the most unique shows on television. In a matter of days, sketches are written, edited, and rehearsed before performed in front of a live audience. And don’t forget the costume design and set construction necessary each week.
So with that kind of grind that goes into producing each show, you can forgive SNL for taking a week off after the first three episodes of the season. That’s right, there is no new episode this week.
The season got off to a hot start when Matt Damon led the cold open in the premiere as Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh. The sketch went viral and helped put eyes back on the show after its summer hiatus.
The next episode featured actress and rapper Akwafina. While there weren’t too many highlights, the show did provide another heavy dose of Pete Davidson. Most notably it was Davidson who provided the show’s response to rapper Kanye West hijacking the stage during the prior week’s show.
Episode three featured the return of Seth Meyers as host. The former Weekend Update anchor and head writer did a fine job considering he is more comfortable behind the desk at Late Night than as a sketch performer. The highlight was certainly the return of Alec Baldwin as Donald Trump during another shot at Kanye West.
So if there is no new episode on Oct. 19 when is the next time Saturday Night Live will debut a new show? Look no further than the show’s Instagram page for your answer:
You’ll have to wait until Nov. 3 for the return of Saturday Night Live. Actor Jonah Hill has hosted three times previously. Most recently was in March 2016. Check back in to Last Night On for a preview of the episode and then a recap of all the highlights.
