SNL: Seth Meyers’ best sketches
By Matt Moore
The longtime writer and Weekend Update anchor returns to host Saturday Night Live on Oct. 13. We look at some of Seth Meyers’ best work from out behind the Update desk.
It was only a matter of time before Seth Meyers returned home to host Saturday Night Live. Prior to his gig on Late Night, Meyers was a cast member from 2001 to 2014. He took over the role of head writer in 2006 from the departed Tina Fey and also took her spot as co-anchor of Weekend Update with Amy Poehler.
When Meyers returns to host the Oct. 13 episode of SNL, with musical guest Paul Simon, he will be joining several of his castmates who have gone on to host. These include Jimmy Fallon, Bill Hader, and Fred Armisen.
Of course, Fey has also hosted multiple times since she left SNL. In addition to the head writer and Weekend Update anchor roles, Meyers and Fey have something else in common. Both were never really known for their work in sketches. Yes, Fey had an iconic run as Sarah Palin but that wasn’t even during her tenure on the show. Hosting the show allowed Fey to show off her character acting and improving skills. And now its Meyers’ turn.
You can all but guarantee that Meyers will return for a segment on Weekend Update with current anchors Colin Jost and Michael Che, who also took Meyers’ position as head writers. But around that viewers will see Meyers as the focal point of the other sketches and pretaped bits. So to prepare, we look back at some of Seth Meyers’ best sketches.
