After Pope Francis weighed in on the subject of the death penalty, God Himself stopped by The Late Show to talk to Stephen Colbert about capital punishment.

Talk show guests certainly can’t get much more high profile than this!

Last night on The Late Show, Stephen Colbert spent some time speaking about politics as he does in his opening monologue. But after dishing out some quips about what’s going on with Donald Trump, Colbert brought up a story about Pope Francis as well. And it would lead to a surprise appearance from a certain God on the show moments later.

As Colbert explains, Pope Francis has declared the death penalty to be unacceptable in all cases. It’s obviously making waves already as this is such a divided issue with people, including those who are very religious. Are those who support the death penalty supposed to ignore what the Pope says? What would God Himself think about that? Well, to answer that latter question, God Himself (well, a projected image of an artist’s rendition of the holy deity) appeared on the ceiling to weigh in on the matter.

God says He does support the Pope’s words, but wonders if it’s retroactive. “I don’t know if you read my book, but I’ve got anger issues,” God explains. “I turned this one guy’s wife into a pillar of salt, but what choice did I have? She turned around!” The Lord also mentions how he once flooded the entire planet, almost wiping out every person on Earth. “Snitches get stitches,” God tells Colbert, making sure he doesn’t call the cops.
