After the highly controversial Russia summit between Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin, Stephen Colbert took to The Late Show to offer his response.

People were waiting to see what Stephen Colbert had to say about this…

Most of us now know the situation with the meeting held with Donald Trump and Russian leader Vladimir Putin. When asked directly about Putin’s involvement in the U.S. election which has been confirmed by every U.S. intelligence agency, Trump refused to believe it. He actually went a step further as to say he believes Putin when he says he wasn’t involved, claiming there’s “no reason” for the former KGB spy to lie.

Last night on The Late Show, Colbert spent his entire opening monologue catching up on the situation. Like so many others, Colbert is disgusted with what happened. “Not only were Trump’s comments imbecilic, he is wholly in the pocket of Putin,” Colbert says with a degree of certainty. As Colbert shows, even Republicans are ashamed in the president’s actions, with John McCain saying the “damage inflicted by President Trump’s naivete, egotism, false equivalence, and sympathy for autocrats is difficult to calculate.”

Interestingly, Putin himself was asked if he had compromising material relating to the president – no doubt referring to the infamous “pee pee tape.” Putin claims he wasn’t aware that Trump was even in Russia during that time, asking if people really think they’d spend so much time following around American businessmen.

“Yeah, I do!” Colbert snaps back. He says how he was followed literally everywhere during his own time in Russia, and he’s just a comedian. “When I finally had to get naked, I turned to every mirror and said ‘You like, Ivan?'”
