On Independence Day, Chelsea Handler went online to issue a public apology to the world for the actions of her American president, Donald Trump.

For everyone across the world unhappy with Donald Trump‘s reign as the president of the United States, Chelsea Handler has a message for you! In a rant posted to her official Twitter account, Handler assures everyone that Americans are “ashamed” to have Trump as president, she’s formally apologizing for him. And the number of retweets these posts have gotten prove she’s far from the only American to feel the same way.

“To every country on the 4th of July. We’re sorry about our president. He doesn’t reflect all of our views—and we hope you know that the majority of us are ashamed,” Handler laments in a tweet. She goes on to add, “We will rally each other and come back to the world one step at a time.”

You don’t need us to tell you how divisive Trump’s presidency has made the country. Handler’s comments will likely be met with a firestorm from the other side. But without a doubt, her comments represent millions of people who feel this way, and for them, perhaps it’s reassuring to know others feel that pain too.

Last year, Handler put an end to her Netflix talk show to focus on political activism. However, she is said to still be working with the streaming service for various projects, which will highlight some issues Handler is passionate about. We can assume more details about those projects will be coming out in the coming weeks or months.
