On last night’s monologue for The Late Show, host Stephen Colbert spoke about the Robert Mueller investigation and Donald Trump meeting Vladimir Putin.

Last night on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, Colbert opened up his opening monologue talking about the Robert Mueller investigation. There are reports that Mueller could be coming out with his own report soon, which, as Colbert hopes, could contain something against Donald Trump. Colbert hopes more dirt about Trump comes out soon, as we’ve got “maybe two weeks before Trump appoints Supreme Court Justice, My Pillow guy.”

Colbert mentions how with this investigation still looming, Trump would seemingly distance himself as much as possible from Russia. So, naturally, yesterday the White House announced Trump would be having another meeting with Vladimir Putin on July 16. “Okay, well it makes sense,” Colbert jokes. “It is time for Trump’s annual employee review.”

Defending the controversial decision, Trump took to Twitter to say how Russia keeps saying that they didn’t meddle with the 2016 election. “Well of course they say that, because they did it!” Colbert jokes. Then mocking Trump, Colbert imitates him saying, “You know, my penis continues to insist he had nothing to do with sex with Stormy Daniels.” It’s not the most pleasant analogy, but it does get Colbert’s point across. It’s as if Russia saying they didn’t do it is all the evidence we need.

Colbert will be going on vacation next week, so we won’t be seeing him on TV at night as usual. On the program, Colbert jokes that he can’t talk about the country next week, but hopefully one will still be here when he comes back. Let’s hope that’s just a joke. When Colbert returns, watch The Late Show with Stephen Colbert weeknights at 11:35 p.m. EST on CBS.
