‘Melania Trump’ talks ‘Coatgate’ on Stephen Colbert’s Late Show
By Jeremy Dick
On The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, a Melania Trump impersonator returned to comment on the coat she wore with the phrase, “I really don’t care, do u?”
Certainly, you’re aware of the news about Melania Trump being photographed wearing a peculiar jacket before boarding a trip to a child detention center. On the back of the garment, the phrase, “I really don’t care, do u?’ was adorned, sending a strange message to the public. Naturally, the First Lady has come under a lot of fire since the incident, with people asking her to explain herself.
So, last night on The Late Show, “Melania Trump” herself appeared to speak about what Stephen Colbert calls “Coatgate.” Of course, this isn’t really Donald Trump’s wife, but a dead’on impersonator who regularly appears on the show playing the role. Just as always, she’s hilarious and nails the part.
Colbert asks Melania if she intended to send the callous message she sent. “Absolutely not,” Melania replies, before winking slyly at the camera. She goes on to deny she meant to send out any kind of negative message, before lamenting her head is cold. The First Lady then puts on a ballcap that literally reads, “F THE KIDS.” “It’s just a hat!” Melania retorts when Colbert questions her on the hat. “It stands for first the kids,” she continues.
And that’s not all. Colbert then questions Mrs. Trump if these messages are just a way to distract people from the images of children being held in detention centers. Panicking, Melania holds up her new sweater which says, “Murder all penguins.”
