Is Last Week Tonight with John Oliver on tonight, June 3rd?

Summer has begun, so many TV shows are concluding their current seasons (or have already done so). Others are still going on, such as HBO’s Real Time with Bill Maher. Does this mean HBO’s other late night talk show Last Week Tonight with John Oliver will be getting a new episode tonight as well, or is the show on a hiatus?

Here’s the situation. There is a new episode premiering tonight! Season 5 of the Emmy winning series is still going strong with multiple episodes left to go before the end of the season. Oliver isn’t through yet, nor will he be for a long time (HBO has renewed the series through 2020 last year).

As always, it’s not entirely clear what topics Oliver will dive into on the show. The biggest news of the week is obviously the fiasco with Roseanne Barr, her racially insensitive tweets, and the subsequent cancellation of her show. Defenders of Barr’s have been pointing to other entertainers such as Samantha Bee, saying they should be fired for using vulgar language as well. The notable difference is that Barr’s comments were racist. It’s very likely Oliver will at least touch on this subject.

We also expect Oliver to shine a light on an overlooked issue as well as only he can. We’re all talking about the situation with Roseanne, but Oliver has a penchant for bringing awareness to more serious issues in need of it. Tune in to see what he has to say tonight.
