Stephen Colbert took to The Late Show last night to point out how the GOP seems very hesitant to endorse Donald Trump running for re-election in 2020.

Donald Trump might be thinking about his re-election campaign in 2020, but maybe his colleagues are considering other options…

Last night, Stephen Colbert kicked off the 4/20 edition of The Late Show by speaking about, well, marijuana. The day is obviously a big day for the weed business, much to the chagrin of Jeff Sessions. But Colbert has noticed that Sessions himself displays many characteristics of being someone who smokes pot, such as constant memory loss – “That Keebler elf has been baking,” the funnyman jokes. However, as Colbert points out, Donald Trump says he still plans to back states which have decriminalized marijuana.

Colbert moves on to speaking about the 2020 election, noting that Trump has already announced that he’s running. Usually, when a Republican politician announces a bid for re-relection, their colleagues will be quick to offer their endorsements. Contrast that with the clips Colbert shows of Republicans being asked if they’ll support Trump in 2020, and all they can do is their best to avoid answering the question. It’s funny, yes, but it’s also quite sad.

Watch Colbert say it best in the YouTube video below.

We will have to ultimately wait and see what happens in 2020. But if Colbert’s observations are any indication, there might be another name running on the red ticket. For now, keep up with Colbert by watching The Late Show when it airs weeknights at 11:35 p.m. EST only on CBS.
