Tom Hanks is starring as Mr. Rogers in upcoming biopic

Tom Hanks is going to be your neighbor when he dons the cardigan sweater in I Am Your Friend, an upcoming biopic about Mr. Rogers.
And I don’t have one bad thing to say about this clearly perfect casting choice!
Over at The Hollywood Reporter, news has broken about the next upcoming project for Tom Hanks. The prolific actor will soon be appearing as Fred Rogers in the biopic I Am Your Friend. For those unaware, Rogers starred in the classic children’s series Mr. Rogers’ Neighborhood and is most commonly known by his TV name, Mr. Rogers.
Acquired by Tri-Star Pictures and set to shoot in September, I Am Your Friend will be directed by Marielle Heller (Diary of a Teenage Girl). The screenplay, from Micah Fizerman-Blue and Noah Harpster, focuses on the relationship between a journalist and Mr. Rogers. After being assigned to write a story about the TV personality, the journalist finds his very own outlook on life forever changed.
I wasn’t aware about this movie entering production, and didn’t know to expect a Fred Rogers biopic. That said, I’m already confident they made the perfect casting choice. Picturing Hanks in the role doesn’t require stretching the imagination very much, and I an almost already see him in the sweater. This movie is definitely going to be a must-see!

There’s no word yet on when this movie will be hitting theaters, though it will certainly be 2019 at the earliest. Stay tuned for more updates as production on the movie continues.
