Seth Meyers checks in on Puerto Rico hurricane recovery efforts
By Jeremy Dick
On last night’s Late Night, Seth Meyers spent some time checking back in with the Hurricane Maria recovery efforts in Puerto Rico, four months later.
How’s Puerto Rico doing several months after Hurricane Maria? Seth Meyers is checking in.
Recently, Meyers went on his late night talk show Late Night to focus on the updated recovery efforts. He brings up how Maria was the worst natural disaster on record to ever hit Puerto Rico, which didn’t seem to dawn on Donald Trump. Astonishingly, Meyers even presents a clip of Trump grading himself a perfect 10 out of 10 for his involvement in the recovery efforts. The Late Night host jokes that Trump was definitely the kid who you’d never let grade his own homework.
Meyers reveals how in December, the power grid is still working at less than 70% capacity. Many families had to spend the holidays without electricity. Meyers wonders what a 9 would be if Trump considers this a 10, theorizing the president accidentally releasing an Outbreak monkey.
What’s worse, as Meyers shows, Trump and pals actually made things worse for Puerto Ricans by passing a tax plan that treats them as a foreign entity, rather than American citizens. It’s imposing harsh taxes on the people there which could result in the loss of hundreds of thousands of jobs. Is this really what they need right now in Puerto Rico?
