Gal Gadot meets ‘Wonder Woman’ in Saturday Night Live monologue
By Jeremy Dick
After starring in Wonder Woman earlier this year, star Gal Gadot poked some fun at the film in her monologue at the start of last night’s Saturday Night Live.
When Wonder Woman met Wonder Woman!
Last night, Wonder Woman‘s Gal Gadot made her Saturday Night Live debut by hosting the series for her first time. The Israeli actress kicked off her monologue by mentioning her heritage, noting the show was broadcasting in Israel for the first time.
Gadot jokes that she has a special message to deliver for her family in her native tongue. However, subtitles on the bottom of the screen reveal what she is really “saying”. She takes several shots at the SNL writers, saying this appearance was probably a “big mistake”. With a smile, Gadot jokes that they seem to believe she’s the actual Wonder Woman.
Next thing we know, after Gadot brings up her role as Wonder Woman, Leslie Jones appears on stage in full Wonder Woman garb. Jones refers to herself as the “Times Square Wonder Woman”, who takes photos with “German tourists” who look up to her. Leslie’s Wonder Woman then takes half the credit for Gadot’s film, even though she never saw it in the theater — but on a bootleg DVD instead.
Before kicking off the show, Leslie’s Wonder Woman takes a quick selfie with Gadot. But in true Times Square character fashion, she then demands $5 in payment. You can watch the entire bit in the YouTube video below.
New episodes of Saturday Night Live air Saturdays on NBC at 11:30 PM EST.
