Young Sheldon: ABC orders full season of Big Bang Theory spinoff
By Jeremy Dick
After proving itself to be a big hit with Big Bang Theory fans, CBS has extended the Young Sheldon spinoff show’s first season from 13 to 22 episodes.
Love him or hate him, little Sheldon is going to be sticking around for a while!
Originally given an order for 13 episodes, the freshman season of CBS’s Young Sheldon wasn’t guaranteed a future. Despite the popularity of The Big Bang Theory, you’re always taking a gamble when producing spinoffs. Especially one which doesn’t feature any of the same actors, taking place in a totally different time period.
But the results are in after the premiere of the show, and CBS is pleased with the numbers. So pleased, in fact, that they ordered more episodes of the show, giving it a full season for its freshman run. Per Variety, the show will be running for 22 episodes overall compared to the 13 it had originally been given.
Official synopsis:
“It’s 1989 and 9-year-old Sheldon Cooper has skipped four grades to start high school along with his less-intellectual older brother. As he struggles to be understood by his family, classmates and neighbors, his mother arms him with the best tool she can come up with: reminding bullies his dad is the football coach and his brother is on the team. His twin sister doesn’t share his exceptional mind, but she has a much clearer vision of what life has in store for the young genius.”
