With Bruce Wayne taking to the streets as a vigilante in the next season of Gotham, will his old pal Jim Gordon be able to determine his identity?

And so begins the relationship between future commissioner Jim Gordon and the vigilante crimefighter he will eventually know as Batman!

When Season 3 of Gotham on FOX came to a close, we saw Bruce Wayne finally taking to the street to clean ’em up himself. Decked in all black, Bruce uses everything he has learned thus far to take out some street punks. This is just a preview of what’s to come for the Dark Knight, and things are about to get much more interesting.

In most iterations of the Batman story, Gordon and Batman are already very well acquainted. Usually, he’s already familiar with his secret identity as well, with the two of them working as essentially partners. Well, it looks like Gotham is soon to explore how Gordon first discovers this would-be superhero — and his initial reaction isn’t good!

According to ComicBook.com, executive producer John Stephens has revealed what to expect moving ahead for Jim and Bruce. At first, the season will focus on Gordon’s attempts to take control back from Penguin, who has made himself an important figure in Gotham once again. But then he will be setting his sights on Bruce the vigilante.

Says Stephens:

"“Moving forward after that, Jim Gordon will realize that this vigilante is operating out there in Gotham somewhere and he goes ‘I’m going to hunt that guy down’ and we have Jim Gordon and a masked Bruce Wayne going head to head.”"

It seems like Future-Batman is going to be somewhat of a thorn in Jim’s side heading into Season 4. But once Gordon inevitably figures out the vigilante’s true identity, they’ll be working together soon enough.

Gotham returns to FOX on on Thursday, Sep. 21 at 8 PM EST.
