Game of Thrones is inching ever closer to airing its final ever episode next year, but series star Kit Harington is excited about the upcoming prequel series.
Hey, as long as it gives us more time to explore the marvelously crafted world of George R. R. Martin, I’m game for it too!
As every Game of Thrones fan knows, the very popular HBO series is gearing up to return. Season 7 is premiering later this month, after a long, painful year of waiting. But as exciting as that may be, the comeback is a little bittersweet, knowing that this is the second-to-last season of the amazing HBO show.
For what it’s worth, Martin is currently developing a spinoff series, set before the events of Games of Thrones. As a prequel series, it could bring in many characters from the show, including those who’ve since passed on. But it’s not looking like one of them will be Jon Snow, as Kit Harington seems content to step away from the series following GoT‘s run.
In a new interview with Entertainment Weekly, Harington spoke about about upcoming spinoff show for Thrones. He confirms that while he is OK with departing from his famous role as Jon, he’ll be watching when HBO debuts the new show set in the same world.
From the EW interview:
"“I think that makes a lot of sense start with a new set of characters. There’s so much scope for this story that’s been going for thousands of years. I’m happy to step away from Jon Snow, though I’m still interested in TV.”"
You can catch Season 7 of Game of Thrones when it premieres later this month! The show officially comes back on July 16, 2017. Watch it at 9PM EST on HBO!
