When does Late Show with Stephen Colbert return from the current spring break the series is on?
If you’re experiencing deja vu watching the Late Show lately, it’s not in your head. The show is calling them “encores,” but they’re really just reruns, because even Stephen Colbert needs a vacation sometimes. Colbert will be back with new episodes on April 17.
Colbert, who took over the Late Show from David Letterman in the fall of 2015, has been on a winning streak recently. According to the New York Post, the week of April 3 marked the 10th consecutive week the Late Show came in number one in viewers, besting longtime king Jimmy Fallon. Moreover, the New York Times recently ran a glowing feature declaring he “finally found his elusive groove,” with everything from ratings evidence to endearing anecdotes about pizza parties.
While he never quite fell out of step, Colbert did have something of a learning curve when he took over the desk from Letterman. The outcome of the election certainly helped the content and draw back viewers from his more political days. But, according to the Times story, it was far more a matter of Colbert getting comfortable with new surroundings.

The Late Show with Stephen Colbert will be back Monday April 17 with new episodes on CBS. There’s nothing to suggest he can’t keep this run going.
