SNL veteran Bobby Moynihan has landed a new pilot at CBS, which has rumors of his Saturday Night Live exit swirling.

After almost a decade on Saturday Night Live, we might be nearing the end of Bobby Moynihan’s tenure. Next to Keenan Thompson, no one from this current cast has been at SNL longer than Moynihan has.

The comedian — who has been featured less and less this season — has just landed a new show on CBS that will likely take him off Saturday Night Live. No official word has been passed down on his future but it’s not hard to connect the dots on this one.

According to Variety, NBC had no immediate comment on the future of Moynihan at SNL.

Historically, when an SNL actor finds something else to do with their television careers, that means their end at Studio 8H. This past offseason, veterans Taran Killam and Jay Pharoah were fired and both have since found new day jobs.

The fact that it didn’t take long for either to get work post-SNL suggests they had things lined up ahead of time. Moynihan having a job lined up could lead to a similar fate as his former co-stars but that’s not a decision that has been made.

This could be a situation where filming won’t take away from his Saturday duties. It’s not uncommon for SNL actors to find work in the offseason. This past summer Kate McKinnon and Leslie Jones formed half of the new Ghostbusters cast and neither were in any danger of losing their roles on the show.

But that was work on a film, where Moynihan is taking a job in television that will be much more time consuming.

It’s all speculative at this point, but the fact that we’ve seen less and less of Moynihan this season coupled with this news of a rival TV gig seems to point towards his exit this offseason from SNL.
