9. Kristen Wiig as Michele Bachmann

Remember when Michele Bachmann was trying to run for president? No? That’s okay, she was easily forgotten and didn’t last very long. But she did spawn one of the greatest impersonations in SNL history. Kristen Wiig, known for her crazy characters, did a few impressions in her time at Saturday Night Live. Not too many but still, quite a few.

But with Bachmann, she completely transformed and showed us that given the right person and she could do wonders. (She went on to do a great impersonation of Harry Styles on Jimmy Fallon but that’s a whole different story.)

Her Bachmann did what a lot of the impersonations on the show do. For many of us, we try and not lose ourselves in the craziness of the political race or politics in general. So we miss some important people (like people who didn’t know who Sean Spicer was before Melissa McCarthy played him).

With Bachmann, she brought light to this woman that many did not trust. She showed us the worst parts of her and why people were questioning her while also still playing her as truthfully as she could. That’s the glory of comedy though. The closest to reality and impersonation can get, the better it is. And with Kristen as Michele, there could be no better.
