SNL live stream: Watch tonight’s new episode with Alec Baldwin online
By Hector Cruz
Alec Baldwin returns to host “Saturday Night Live” tonight for a record-breaking 17th time.
Alec Baldwin made his hosting debut on SNL back in 1990, fresh off his role as Jack Ryan in The Hunt for Red October. Since then he’s hosted the show 16 times, compiling a growing list of memorable characters along the way such as Pete Schweddy and the creepy scoutmaster to Adam Sandler’s Canteen Boy, while also impersonating the likes of Tony Bennett, Charles Nelson Reilly, and more recently, Donald Trump.
Baldwin last presided over the program in September 2011, besting Steve Martin as the show’s most frequent host. The actor is set to break his own record tonight by emceeing SNL for a 17th time. So far this season, he’s appeared in 10 out of 13 episodes, mostly as Trump, which helped earn him a Critics’ Choice Award, frequently attracting the ire of the president and members of his administration such as Kellyanne Conway and press secretary Sean Spicer, who was recently lampooned by Melissa McCarthy.
Baldwin will be joined by English singer Ed Sheeran, who will be performing two songs off his new album. In a promo for tonight’s episode, The “Shape of You” crooner upstaged Baldwin with his own Trump impression, earning effusive praise from SNL cast member Cecily Strong. Baldwin also made sure to explain to the audience that his return to the Studio 8H stage was “big deal” in a black and white promo that revisited some of his more famous roles.
