6. Farrah Fawcett may have been inebriated during her Letterman interview

Much respect goes out to Farrah Fawcett, a legend of the screen who is sadly no longer with us. I hate to bring up the most embarrassing moment of her career, but there’s no way to avoid it. This incident is one of the most peculiar in the entire run of David Letterman’s Late Night, which is saying something.

It happened on June 5, 1997. Fawcett appears on Late Night for an interview with Letterman, and let’s just say she’s barely coherent. Her long rambling is painful to watch, and she consistently looks spaced out, looking around the room. It’s hard to say what it might be, but chances are Fawcett was on something.

Later, Fawcett would deny to being inebriated on the show. She would claim she was just joking around with the host by acting strangely, and her looking around was just checking out the reactions of various audience members. It will be up to you as to which version of the story you wish to believe, but in any case, it’s a very strange interview.

In 2009, Letterman would reference it again after a rambling interview from Joaquin Phoneix, suggesting they owe Farrah Fawcett an apology.
