Acclaimed actor Laurence Fishburne stopped by The Daily Show, where Trevor Noah pleaded for the world to be given the red pill.

Some people still can’t believe that we live in a world where a reality television star was elected president. Some people will defend that asinine reality to no end, while others — like Trevor Noah — want to find out that it’s some ruse.

Noah took the chance to find that truth when Laurence Fishburne stopped by The Daily Show. As soon as the actor was seated, Noah launched into a short joke that referenced The Matrix and how badly we all want this to be some dream world where we’re being farmed in real life. That reality would be better than actual reality.

“If there was ever a time for you to tell us this is not the real world, we’re ready.” Noah joked, which incited instant and robust laughter from Fishburne. “Give us the red pill and let’s get the [expletive] out of here.”

After that little moment was shared, Fishburne talked about the impact of Black-ish, the hit show that he stars on as the father of the main characters. The discussion centered on how the series strikes a chord with everyone who has a family in America, but the added effect that it can be told from the perspective of a black family makes it that much more special.

Unfortunately no pill we take — red, blue, green, yellow — will change the reality we live in. At least we always have The Matrix and Black-ish to escape into when we’re feeling down.

The Daily Show with Trevor Noah airs every weeknight at 10pm ET on Comedy Central. Stay tuned to Last Night On for all the latest clips and news.
