Donald Trump was inaugurated as the 45th President of the United States, and SNL was ready to welcome him with troll arms open.

We officially live in the Donald Trump era of American history, full stop. The 45th President was sworn in on Friday afternoon, ending Barack Obama’s eight-year run in the Oval Office and ushering in an era of trolling unlike we’ve ever seen.

Not only will the trolls be happening from the Oval Office, thanks to the President’s Twitter account, but late night shows and comedians are going to do their part to protest Trump’s administration the only way they know how.

Saturday Night Live has been on this train for a while now, with Alec Baldwin playing the role of Trump to perfection, but Beck Bennett as Vladimir Putin has been just as amazing. That was on full display tonight, as the SNL crew went hard in the paint to commemorate Trump’s inauguration.

Beck Bennett’s role as Vladimir Putin has been fantastic, and his troll of Trump’s inauguration turnout was something that earned a loud cheer from the crowd. We also saw Kate McKinnon right off the bat in the cold open.

Bill Maher returned on Friday to deliver his first post-Trump troll and now it was time for SNL to do the same. The show has made it their business to piss off Trump in his President-elect status, and have now done so in the first day of his presidency.

Think about that — we’re literally waiting for the President of the United States to angry tweet about being made fun of on a late night sketch comedy show. That’s the world we live in, love it or hate it. At the very least, SNL is going to try and make it as enjoyable as possible, while possibly re-capturing the counterculture attitude that helped make the show something special back in the 1970s.

Baldwin’s role as Trump is only just beginning, and as long as we have SNL to help us vent, these next four years don’t have to be as bad as they probably will end up being.
