As a tribute to the late Carrie Fisher, Tina Fey made a surprise appearance on Saturday Night Live dressed as Princess Leia during the opening monologue.

There was a lot of pressure on Felicity Jones to deliver as the host for Saturday Night Live after playing Jyn Erso in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. Fortunately for her, she had someone to help her out.

Jones opened up the first episode of Saturday Night Live in 2017 admitting that she was nervous during the opening monologue. Fortunately for her, she had some help on her side with Kenan Thompson dressed up as Saw Gerrera. However, that wasn’t nearly as exciting as what came next.

After Kenan’s appearance a hologram appeared with what appeared to be Princess Leia. However, it turned out to be former SNL cast member Tina Fey to give Jones advice on how to properly host Saturday Night Live. You can watch the whole video courtesy of SNL’s Twitter account below.

Fey has always been a huge Star Wars fan, even dressing up as Princess Leia in other roles, including on 30 Rock. Since this was the first episode since the passing of Carrie Fisher, it seemed only appropriate that Fey would be the one to dress as Leia.

No one was quite sure what Jones would deliver in her opening monologue, but adding this element with Fey was the perfect idea. Fey had no problem roasting the NBC sketch comedy series along with Kenan. SNL always does a great job with its surprise guests, and this one was definitely unexpected.
