Stephen Colbert trolls Alabama over National Championship

The Late Show host Stephen Colbert had no problem trolling Nick Saban and the Alabama Crimson Tide after Clemson won the national championship.

Stephen Colbert has never been a big sports guy, but that’s never stopped him from making jokes about sporting events. That hasn’t stopped since he’s taken over as the host for The Late Show.

On Tuesday night’s episode of The Late Show, Colbert started his opening monologue while wearing a Clemson Tigers football helmet. According to Colbert, the helmet was a gift from South Carolina governor Nikki Haley and was signed by Clemson head coach Dabo Swinney.

Colbert joked that he wears the helmet all the time off of the set, but decided to wear it on Tuesday night because the Tigers became national champions in a stunning victory over the Alabama Crimson Tide. Colbert also admitted that he didn’t watch the game because he was too busy watching Big Bang Theory.

As if subtly trolling Nick Saban and the Crimson Tide wasn’t enough, Colbert also had to take a shot at the NCAA by saying that the players earned every penny for their hard work in the national championship.

Colbert then went on to talk about Trump’s transition team and how that has been going this week. Like he’s known for, Colbert had no problem taking shots at the president elect or any of his cabinet selections. The Trump jokes were strong, but it was also nice to see Colbert make some jokes about the national championship in classic Colbert fashion.
