The Critics’ Choice Awards winners were announced at a ceremony in Los Angeles on Sunday, Dec. 11.

The Critics’ Choice Awards broadcast on A&E Sunday evening became one of the first awards shows to honor the best TV shows and films of 2016, providing some insight as to what may occur at next year’s Golden Globes, Oscars and even Emmy Awards. La La Land, Manchester by the Sea, Moonlight and Jackie continued to dominate the film categories, while new series like Atlanta, The Crown and Westworld received accolades on the television side.

Notable surprises included the potential of Deadpool becoming a legitimate awards contender with four wins for Best Comedy, Best Action Movie, and Best Actor in a Comedy and Action Movie for Ryan Reynolds. In the TV genre, Atlanta star Donald Glover managed to pull off an upset win over awards favorite Jeffrey Tambor, however, his show lost Best Comedy to HBO’s Silicon Valley, starring the night’s host, TJ Miller.

Elsewhere, the musical La La Land and mini series The People v. OJ Simpson dominated their respective categories, while breakout drama Westworld took home two acting awards, hinting that it could soon usurp Best Drama Series winner Game of Thrones as HBO’s most acclaimed series.
