Kurtwood Smith (Wisconsin)

There are lots of places where you can recognize the Wisconsin-born actor Kurtwood Smith. For many it starts with his major role as the villain in the classic action film RoboCop. He would appear in many other feature films, though this role is probably his most well-known. It would be on television where Smith would really make his face known.

In the 90s, Smith was cast as the father Red Foreman on the sitcom series That 70s Show. Smith stayed on the series for its entire duration, running from 1998 to 2006. He was one of the funniest characters on the show, a humorous but gruff father with a short temper. He had a penchant for calling people “dumbass”, which was essentially his catchphrase on the series.

Smith’s TV career didn’t end when That 70s Show did, however. He plays a senator in the seventh season of 24. He also had a recurring role on the show Medium, even later showing up as a ghost when his character was killed. Smith goes on to have another leading role on a show as the main character on Resurrection, which ran for two seasons. Chances are we’ll be seeing him again in other upcoming TV shows.
