Josh Duhamel (North Dakota)
If you’re from North Dakota and want to be an actor, don’t give up. You wouldn’t be the first North Dakotan to make it as an actor. In fact, that’s where actor Josh Duhamel hails from, having been born in the town of Minot. Following college, he would accompany his then-girlfriend to California to pursue new kinds of work.
Duhamel got started as a model, even beating out a young Ashton Kutcher in a competition. From there, he would appear in various music videos. His break came when he nabbed the part of Leo on the soap opera series All My Children. His acting on the series earned him critical acclaim which only facilitated additional work for Duhamel. He received two Emmy nominations, winning one, for his time as Leo.
But Duhamel would leave the show to pursue other opportunities. He would join the NBC series Las Vegas in its fourth season, replacing a departing James Caan. Duhamel would remain on the show for years until it ended its run.
Hollywood also took notice of Duhamel’s success on television. Steven Spielberg personally cast him for a main role in the Transformers movies. He continues to appear in various films and shows to this day.
