Patrick Dempsey (Maine)
Actor Patrick Dempsey was born in the town of Lewiston, Maine. He became a performer early in life as a juggler. In 1981, he managed to win second place at the International Jugglers Association Championship in the Junior category. He only lost to Anthony Gatto, who is considered to be the best technical juggler ever, so that’s not bad at all.
Dempsey entered the world of acting in his 20s and didn’t spend a lot of time before finding success. He picked up many film and TV roles starting out, solidifying himself as an actor early into his career. For years, he honed the craft, and his first major TV role was as Will’s closeted lover on Will & Grace. He plays the role of Aaron on the show Once & Again, a part which gained him an Emmy nomination for Outstanding Guest Actor in a Drama Series.
We can probably point to his iconic role on Grey’s Anatomy as his career-defining part, however. Dempsey Dr. Derek Shepherd on the show, one of the show’s most favorite characters. He earned a Golden Globes nomination for the Best Performance by an Actor in a Television Series in the drama genre.
