Saturday Night Live: 30 scandals and secrets you didn’t know

12. The controversial Django Unchained parody
The moral majority of Americans are religious. As such, any time Jesus Christ is the subject of a comedy sketch, it’s bound to offend. Put him in a situation where he’s the star of an ultra bloody revenge flick with Quentin Tarantino directing, and that’s really going to get some people complaining.
But that’s what happened on Saturday Night Live. In a spoof trailer for a movie called “Djesus Uncrossed,” an obvious take on Tarantino’s Django Unchained, Christ himself assumes the role of Django. After rising from the dead, Christ is hellbent on bringing gory vengeance to those who crucified him.
Django Unchained star Christoph Waltz exits the cave where “Djesus” is buried, and goes on a killing spree. A narrator states that Christ is teaching “anything but forgiveness” as he slaughters Roman soldiers. Tarantino movie actors Brad Pitt, Samuel L. Jackson, and Ving Rhames are also represented in the skit.
As you can expect, NBC was flooded with angry complaints. Many fans watching did not see the humor in the skit. Still, others found it to be a funny take on the classic biblical story, and many fans praise it.
