15. David Spade plagiarizes… on accident

Some of the performers on Saturday Night Live also contribute written sketches for the show. It turns out some of them are just as talented with comedy writing as they are performing. One actor who did some sketch writing is the one and only David Spade.

Spade’s very first sketch which made it to air was called “Not Getting Any”. It was set up in the style of a talk show, where men complain about the fact that they aren’t getting laid. Chris Farley, a close friend of Spade’s, took this opportunity to play a little joke on his Tommy Boy co-star. He gave this joke to Spade as a suggestion: “I have a weight problem, hell my parents don’t even know I swallow a lot of aggression along with a lot of pizza.”

Evidently, Spade loved the line and added it to the skit. Moments before it was set to air live, however, Farley came clean. He revealed to Spade that the line of dialogue comes from the movie Stripes. At this point, it was too late to change anything, and the dialogue made it into the sketch. So Spade stole the line completely by accident.
