2. No one else from Game of Thrones won

While it’s easy to have sour grapes about Kit Harrington losing, we need to back up and look at the broader picture here. No one from Game of Thrones won an acting Emmy this year, which isn’t really all that surprising. Back on the Emmy’s preview for WiC Live, I mentioned that the show might win technical awards for special effects but the show is never a lock for writing or acting.

That’s not to say the show doesn’t have top notch acting or writing. But when you think about Game of Thrones in the grander scheme of the television landscape, there are tightly written shows and ones that are better acted. Of course, Thrones winning for Best Writing in a Drama flies in the face of that theory but it’s still one that rings true. When you think of Game of Thrones you think of dragons, white walkers and insane battles. You don’t think of Shakespearean acting or episodes that are cleverly designed and written.

Again, that’s not saying Game of Thrones isn’t a well written and finely acted show. But we can’t stand here and act like the greatest performances of the year were snubbed for subpar winners.
