5. John Oliver proves the impossibility of the border wall

Donald Trump’s proposed plan to build a border wall separating the United States and Mexico has been one of his biggest selling points. Illegal immigration is something that concerns a lot of Americans, and Trump’s policies of being tough on Mexicans has gotten him a lot of voters. But is this giant wall even a real possibility?

John Oliver took to Last Week Tonight to talk about how utterly ridiculous this whole plan is. There are so many flaws, that it took the comedian nearly twenty minutes to point them all out. And if you weren’t sure before watching the segment that the wall was a bad idea, Oliver will definitely has you convinced.

First of all, Trump’s numbers on the pricing for the wall fluctuate. He estimates the cost to build the wall would be between $4 billion and $12 billion. But upon doing the math, Oliver concludes that this magical wall, at its very cheapest, would cost $25 million. And that’s just to build the wall. Additional costs to maintain it will exceed what it cost to build it in the first place in just seven years. There’s just no way Trump can ever pull this off.
