26. Fred Armisen

Like Jimmy Fallon, Fred Armisen made a name for himself as a featured player on Saturday Night Live. His ability to entertain under dozens of different hilarious characters made him one of the best in the show’s history. Armisen surely could have spent several more years as an SNL cast member, but he moved on under his own volition to focus more on his own brand of comedy.

Armisen created the IFC series Portlandia with Carrie Brownstein, and it’s one of the funniest shows on TV. His work on the outlandish comedy show has earned him several Emmy nominations. He has won two Peabody Awards for his comedy work, including one for each Saturday Night Live and Portlandia.

Bringing in Armisen to host a late night show would be a good idea. He has proven himself to be very smart and extremely funny. On top of that, he’s musically talented as well. He currently serves as the bandleader and drummer of the 8G Band on Late Night with Seth Meyers, and could easily work comedy music into his shows.

A history in improv comedy, work on SNL, and experience with comedy in music all build up to the possibility of Armisen succeeding on late night TV.
