22. Trump campaign hysterically low on cash
Fundraising is probably the most important part of any presidential hopeful’s campaign. It is incredibly expensive to run for president, and coming up with the money can be very challenging for many candidates. Even for the super rich Donald Trump, coming up with money was at times pretty difficult for the Republican nominee.
On The Late Show, Stephen Colbert brought to light how the Federal Election Commission released information on how much cash the candidates had raised. As it turned out, Hillary Clinton was far ahead of Trump in terms of money raised. Clinton was sitting on around $42 million dollars, while Trump had only about $1.3 million dollars. It was surprising to see the gap between the two major candidates so large.
Really, how can Trump’s campaign have so little money? The guy brags about how easy it is for him to come up with cash. That must not be very true after all, and Colbert had the perfect line to sum up the consensus reaction:
“I can’t believe Trump has so little cash! I always knew those huge skyscrapers were overcompensating for something in his pants, I just never imagined it was his wallet.”
