30 times Stephen Colbert embarrassed Donald Trump

6. Why Trump doesn’t like the pope
Donald Trump has had little feuds with many celebrities throughout his television career, and that has continued into his political one. A particularly odd squabble he had was between him and the pope. It began when the pope released a statement on Trump’s plans to build a wall, declaring it to be unchristian. This didn’t sit well with Trump.
On The Late Show, Stephen Colbert played a video of Trump’s immediate response. According to the Republican nominee, he was just informed as he was going on stage that the pope had said something about him. Trump then wondered what the pope said, and whether it was bad or good. If it was good, he likes the pope, but if it’s bad, then he doesn’t like the pope.
Colbert praised Trump for at least being honest. Ignoring everything else about a person, Trump’s entire opinion on them rests entirely on what they might have said about him. To put it another way, Colbert translated Trump’s message as if it had come from Jesus Christ:
“You got to respect his honesty. It’s like Jesus said, ‘Blessed are the poor, unless they said something bad about me. Then screw ’em.'”
