21. Trump’s secret weapon is… Scott Baio?
Many of us are well aware that Donald Trump is a lunatic. That’s not exactly a headline. But there are a ton of people that support him, whether or not it makes any sense, and he’s got a lot of folks in his corner.
Even some of his fellow celebrities are backing Trump. The most notable of which is probably Scott Baio, who is best known for the old sitcoms Joanie Loves Chachi and Charles in Charge (which is to say, he’s not very well known at all these days). Trump has consistently trotted out Baio to defend him on television, but nobody really knows why.
On The Late Show, Stephen Colbert showed some clips of Baio talking nonsense trying to praise Trump’s policies. But the bigger question, really, is why does Baio’s political commentary matter in the first place? Why does his opinion hold any relevance or merit? Colbert phrased it well by putting it in the form of this joke:
“I don’t know what’s more surprising, Scott Baio’s opinion, or the fact that someone asked Scott Baio’s opinion. Next, they’re gonna ask thoughts on Trump’s border wall from Wilson on Home Improvement.”
