23. Hillary is the “disappointing mom” of young voters

On the subject of Hillary Clinton’s close race with Bernie Sanders, one particularly devastating loss of hers came in New Hampshire, which saw Sanders win in a heavy landslide victory. The gap was so large that Clinton herself had to address it, attributing the loss to her need to connect more with younger voters. She made claims to still support those who voted against her, even if they weren’t rooting for her now.

Leave it to Stephen Colbert to highlight this loss on The Late Show. Clinton’s explanation was dismissive of this support for Sanders, suggesting that when all is said and done, she will be the winner anyway, but she will still be there for these voters whose preferred candidate didn’t receive the nomination. Imitating Mrs. Clinton, Colbert translated what the presidential hopeful really meant when she provided this answer:

“She is not reaching young people, so she is trying a new tactic: disappointing mom. ‘I know you are mad at me right now, but I still love you. It’s okay if you need to be the bad guy, just know that at the end of the day, I’m the one taking care of you.’ “
