21. Hillary offers a free magnet to celebrate her big win
By becoming the first woman to be nominated for president by a major political party, Hillary Clinton had indeed made history. Just to make sure that nobody could ever forget that, Clinton really wanted to drive the point home, mentioning her “historic” win at every opportunity.
One way to celebrate this achievement was to offer her supporters a free magnet, ideally to place on your car, with a message about Clinton’s historic win. Not to take that away from Clinton, but we also shouldn’t forget that she had a plague of controversies following her all the way up to and after officially receiving the Democratic nomination, particularly the email scandal.
Stephen Colbert put Clinton on blast for this on The Late Show, mocking the magnet giveaway and linking it to the email scandal by suggesting the two were related:
“Yes, a big, round magnet, perfect to decorate your car bumper, or maybe even erase your emails.”
An on-screen graphic is also shown of the Hillary Clinton magnet on a portable hard drive, with Colbert joking that the scandal was indeed innocent, and that this was probably how that whole thing happened anyway.
