30 people who can replace Stephen Colbert on The Late Show
By Buckie Wells
7. Chris Rock
Chris Rock is one of the greatest stand-up comedians around, best known for his various movie roles, his voice over role in the Madagascar franchise, and for being the narrator and creative genius behind the sitcom Everybody Hates Chris.
In 1997, he started hosting his own late night comedy show, The Chris Rock Show, on HBO, which ran for five seasons and won and Emmy for Outstanding Writing in a Variety Series. He’s also hosted the Academy Awards twice, with 2016 being the year of the #OscarsSoWhite controversy that fueled Chris Rock’s opening monologue.
The thing about comedians is that, while everybody knows who they are, not everybody knows their platform or has seen their routines. But with Chris Rock, people know who he is and what they’re getting: a black guy who knows that scales are tipped against him but doesn’t allow any of that to stop him from rocking the house.
The Late Show with Chris Rock would be filled with as many laughs as there will be serious monologues highlighting the social injustices of America, plus I think we all want to see him sell girl scout cookies to each and every single one of his guests that comes on the show.
