30 people who can replace Stephen Colbert on The Late Show
By Buckie Wells
30. Amy Schumer
Amy Schumer’s really specific brand of comedy might’ve earned her an elite spot in the circle of female comedians, but it’s her buzzworthiness that makes her a contender for the late night hosting gig.
With a slew of successful projects (like Inside Amy Schumer and Trainwreck) in her back pocket and a direct line to some of the most talked-about celebrities around, Schumer presents big opportunities for CBS that go way beyond the fact that she’s a woman.
If Schumer did end up doing late night, she’d be able to stretch her comedic wings in the same way that Jimmy Fallon has been able to do so. She has no qualms about her raunchy brand of comedy, which is good for someone who would step into Colbert’s spot.
Perhaps all it takes for Schumer to evolve to the next level of comedy and host her own late night show is the right creative time and a bit of structure. With a dedicated team behind her to help cultivate her fanbase and her comedy brand, Schumer could be on her way to not only being a successful female comedian, but also, a successful late night host.
