13. Tyler Perry

Tyler Perry is a self-made entertainer, most popular for creating the Madea persona.

Additionally, a lot of his success comes from turning his plays into highly popular movies. In addition to his show Tyler Perry’s House of Payne that ran on TBS from 2006-2012, he also appears in stuff that isn’t created or produced by him, like last year’s highly talked about Gone Girl and the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles sequel.

Perry also has a large contract deal with Oprah Winfrey’s network, OWN, that will give him an opportunity to bring more scripted shows to television.

While there are many critics out there who believe Tyler Perry’s success comes from the misrepresentation of black culture, and more specifically, women, it doesn’t change the fact that he’s worth almost half a billion dollars, which means he has an audience. Somebody, somewhere — whether they like to admit it or not — is marking down the days on their calendar for the next Madea movie, which is Boo! A Madea Halloween that hits theaters on October 21.

Perry’s comedy fits safely in the realm of late night talk shows that will give him the chance to use all his skills (writer, producer, and actor) in one place.

Obviously, his pilot would have to be Madea Takes Late Night.
